Just a couple of ceramic vases sitting on a shelf.

The vases are alike in a couple of ways. First, they have the same general shape and both are white. The patterns are also related: the dimensional pattern of the one on the left is similar to the cutouts of the one on the right.

This photo took a lot of processing. I had to do some serious cropping; the original image was wide with a lot of unrelated stuff on the sides that detracted from the picture as I imagined it. I also had to straighten the horizontals and verticals, then adjust the shadows and highlights. I went back and forth quite a bit before I was satisfied with the results.

Today’s photo is of the Commodore Theater on High Street in downtown Portsmouth. It’s a fully restored Art Deco movie theater complete with curtains they pull back when the movie is about to start. They have little tables set up with lamps and phones so you can order dinner before the movie starts.

I took it on the way to a PhotoShop class at the Art Center. It was near sunset, and they had just turned on the marquee. If you look closely, you’ll see two MINI Coopers near the right edge. The one in front is mine.

This image didn’t take much processing, just a little cropping to remove some messy pavement in the street. I didn’t need to enhance the colors at all; it was a pretty evening with a beautiful blue sky and fluffy clouds.

This is a pair of socks I knitted a few years ago, and it was a lot simpler than it looks. Traditionally, you would work using a difficult technique with many colors to get this effect. It’s a good thing that’s no longer necessary or I would never have made these; I used a yarn designed to knit up into this pattern. Computer science, meet knitting!

I did not have to do extensive processing to create the final image. I adjusted the colors to show them correctly and then cropped the photo into a square.
